WASHINGTON - Senior Matt Hilleary scored a career-high 28 points to lead fourth-ranked Catholic to a 83-67 non-conference win over McDaniel College Tuesday night at the DuFour Center. The center was 9-of-14 from the floor and went a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line. Hilleary added a game-high nine rebounds and blocked three shots.

Will Morley's three-pointer highlighted a 9-0 run early on to take a 21-13 lead. The junior scored 18 points for his ninth straight game with double-figure scoring.

But the Green Terror (3-7) used hot shooting from beyond the arc to cut into the lead. Consecutive three-pointers from Greg Hill and Alan Hoyt cut the CUA lead to one at 27-26. Hoyt led McDaniel with 20 points on 6-of-16 shooting including 4-of-7 from three-point land.

After a Hilleary jumper in the paint, McDaniel's Bryant Dull connected on a three to tie the game for the third time in the period. Dull finished with 10 points.

Catholic held McDaniel scoreless for the last six minutes of the half and held a 41-30 lead at the break.

The second half saw the Cardinals keep a double-digit lead for most of the stanza.

Erik Larson's driving layup with just over four minutes cut the CUA lead to nine, but that would be as close as the Green Terror would get for the rest of the game.

Freshman Matt Tanner scored 11 points in his first start of the season. Senior Kevin Wise chipped in a career-high eight rebounds and added eight assists.

For the game, CUA shot 53.8% (28-of-52) from the floor. The Green Terror connected on just 39.6% from the floor including 12-of-21 from beyond the arc.

Catholic (10-1) resumes action on Thursday as they travel to Rocky Mount, N.C. to take on North Carolina Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
