Men's Basketball Tramples Pitt-Greensburg
ATLANTA, Ga.- The Catholic University of America's men's basketball team earned a convincing 82-58 win over University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg in game one of the Oglethorpe Classic Friday evening.
After holding onto a small lead in the opening minutes of the game, Brian Baker (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) hit a three pointer at the 16:36 mark that sparked a 16-5 run in favor of the Cardinals. CUA then kept UPG at bay for the remainder of the half, and held a comfortable 42-30 lead going into the locker room.
CUA began pulling away midway through the second half. A balanced offensive attack left the Bobcats stunned, as the Red and Black went on a 20-3 run. The Cards' swarming defense and solid rebounding limited Pitt-Greensburg's offensive chances, and CUA ran away with the convincing victory.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was Clark Hindelang (Ocean City, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) with 14 points, two steals, and two assists. Senior Evin Yarbrough (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) also chipped in 12 points, while teammate Jason Banzhaf (Livingston, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) recorded 11 points and 9 boards in the win.
The Cardinals will play in round two of the tournament tomorrow at 4 p.m., against Buffalo State College.
