Dixon and Peterson Named Players of the Week
WASHINGTON-- After putting together a combined 5-0 record, Brianna Peterson and R.J. Dixon were both named Landmark Conference Players of the Week for their strong contributions.
Junior guard R.J. Dixon helped Catholic to a perfect 3-0 week, including the championship of its own CUA/Residence Inn Greenbelt Classic. Dixon was named the MVP of the tournament as he scored 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting in the Championship-game win over Regis. He scored at least 13 points in each of CUA’s games for the week, while shooting 66 percent from the field and 54-percent from three-point range. He averaged 16.7 points over the three games while adding 10 assists, seven rebounds and three steals.
Brianna Peterson put together a pair of explosive offensive performances to lead CUA to a 2-0 week. The junior erupted for a season-high 36 points, one shy of her own Landmark single-game record, while also collecting 10 rebounds in a win over Stevenson. She scored 36 of her team’s 55 points in the game. She followed it up with a 22-point performance in a win over John Jay, while adding three rebounds, three steals and an assist. She averaged 29 points and 6.5 rebounds for the week, while shooting 55-percent from the field.
Peterson and the CUA women's basketball team return to the floor today at 4 p.m. against Swarthmore while the men's team will return to action on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 against Juniata at 7:30 p.m.
