R.J Dixon and Chris Kearney Lead Men's Basketball to
90-60 Win Over Moravian
WASHINGTON-- Matt Fazzini was honored prior to the game as part of Senior Night along with Coach Howes on his 100th win and Jason Banzhaf for his 1000th point, but it was Fazzini who hit the opening triple to put the Cards on top early.
With the triple, Fazzini kept pace with Kate Robinson who also opened the Cardinals scoring in the women's game with a trey. Fazzini finished with 10 points and three boards while R.J. Dixon led the CUA (17-7, 9-4 LC) offensive attack as the Cards dropped Moravian (7-17, 3-10 LC) 90-60 at the DuFour Center on Wednesday night in Landmark Conference action.
Chris Cullen led the way for Moravian with 13 points while two others joined him in double figures.
The Cardinals took the momentum of the opening three and expanded their lead to 11-4 just over three minutes into the contest. CUA then doubled that lead with 5:16 remaining in the first half. At the break the Cards led by 21, 43-22.
In the second half it was more of the same for CUA. Full line changes for the hosts bench kept the energy up throughout the night, and maintained a constant pressure on the visitors. In total, 15 players saw time on the floor in the red and black tonight, with each one contributing offensively, whether by scoring, or grabbing an offensive board.
CUA will return to action on Saturday as the Cardinals will travel to Goucher to end the regular season. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The Cardinals have secured the No. 3 seed in the Landmark Conference tournament and will travel to either USMMA or Scranton for a semifinal game on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010.
