CUA remains on the road looking to snap losing skid

WASHINGTON - Following a pair of tough losses last weekend, CUA looks to rebound as the Cardinals head to Merchant Marine Academy and Drew on Friday and Saturday.  CUA fell to Juniata on a buzzer-beating three-pointer on January 7 and was then defeated by Susquehanna in overtime the very next day, but despite the setbacks there were several positives to take away.

Senior R.J. Dixon set a career-high with 28 points vs. Susquehanna, freshman Pete Schramm sank a pair of free throws with 0.2 seconds on the clock to send the game to overtime, and senior Jason Banzhaf notched his seventh double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 boards.  The day before at Juniata Banzhaf led CUA with 20 points and as a team the Cardinals outrebounded the Eagles 34-23.

Merchant Marine Academy enters this weekend with a mark of 7-6 following a 65-60 win vs. Stevens Institute on Tuesday evening.  The Mariners are 2-1 in Landmark Conference play after splitting a pair of games last weekend with a win at Moravian and loss at Scranton.  Leading the Mariners in scoring this season is Matt Hueber at 14.4 points per game, and he is also pulling down a team-high 9.5 rebounds per contest.

After going 0-2 last weekend, Drew comes into this weekend with an 0-3 record in Landmark Conference play and a 4-9 overall record.  The Rangers fell at Scranton last Saturday and then dropped a decision at Moravian the next day, leaving Drew searching for its first conference win of the 2010-11 season.  Asmar Caspers is one of two Rangers scoring in double figures at 21.7 points per game and he is joined by Terrell Brown at 10.7 ppg.

Against Juniata on January 7, CUA received only 19 points from its players not named Banzhaf or Dixon.  The Cardinals had more of a balanced attack at Susquehanna though, with 36 points coming from outside their big two.

CUA and Merchant Marine Academy will begin the weekend with their game on Friday, which gets underway at 5:30 p.m.  The Cardinals will next head to New Jersey for a Saturday afternoon showdown at Drew.  Tip-off is slated for 2.

There will be live video shown of both games this weekend.
