As a graduate assistant in charge of day-to-day operations, Anderson steps into a role that has launched several coaching careers.

Anderson played freshman basketball at Binghamton (N.Y.) High School in 2010-11 before transferring to Springfield Township (Pa.), where he played one season of football and two years of basketball. During the summer of 2013, he played on an AAU basketball team that included Hakeem Baxter (Alabama-Birmingham), Anthony Durham (Rider) and Zac Tillman (Monmouth).

Anderson spent his senior year (2013-14) at DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md., where he studied percussion and worked as a basketball manager. Serving under Coach Mike Jones, he worked with several Division I players, including Markelle Fultz (Philadelphia 76ers), the No. 1 selection in the 2017 NBA Draft. Anderson played third base on the Stags baseball team and graduated in 2014.

For the next four years, Anderson attended Marymount University in Arlington, Va. He served as a manger on the men’s basketball team under Coach Chris Rogers as a freshman and sophomore. He played on the team his junior year. He graduated from Marymount in 2017 with a B.S. in economics and is working on a master’s degree in business analysis at Catholic University.

Anderson has worked at several basketball camps, including at Maryland, Navy, Catholic, Marymount and George Mason. He has coached at elite camps hosted by Cornell and Columbia and at All Academic Basketball Camps at Brandeis University and Sarah Lawrence College.

During the 2017-18 season, he was an assistant freshman coach at DeMatha. During the summer, he coached on a 13-and-under team sponsored by NBA World Champion Kevin Durant.

In his current role, Anderson is following in the footsteps of previous Catholic grad assistants Tommy Berry, Steve Bower and Ryan Hyland. Berry is an assistant on Steve Howes’ staff. Bower is an assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of New Haven (Conn.). Hyland is in his fifth year as head coach at John Jay College in New York.

Anderson’s father, Donald, was a four-year starter at Franklin & Marshall and later served as an assistant coach there and at Coppin State, Binghamton, Mount Saint Mary’s, Florida A&M and UMBC. He was director of basketball operations at Jacksonville (Fla.) University and head coach at Gettysburg College (1985-89). 

Anderson was born in Gaithersburg, Md., in 1996. He is the son of Karen Whyte and the late Donald Anderson. He lives in Hyattsville.
