Title: Assistant Coach

If Ryan Eskow’s first year as an assistant coach is any indication, he’s in for a bright coaching future. His player development work with center Chris Kearney – who now plays professionally in Spain – helped him blossom into a first-team All-American.

Eskow will be entering his third season with CUA for the 2014-15 campaign.  Eskow's firm knowledge of the game and understanding of player development makes him an asset to the Cardinal coaching staff.  The Cardinals are looking to improve on last seasons effort and Eskow will provide great leadership and expertise.

Eskow’s second-year duties included continuing to work with CUA’s big men, scouting, video breakdown and game planning. He prepped for his current role by contributing to the success one of the area’s top programs.

As a freshman manager at American University in 2008-09, Eskow helped the Eagles win the Patriot League regular-season and tournament championships. AU’s 24-8 record (13-1 Patriot) tied the school mark for season victories. The Eagles advanced to play Villanova in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and Jeff Jones was named Patriot League Coach of the Year.

Eskow was head manager the next three seasons and worked closely with AU players and coaches. Among his duties were assisting with travel arrangements, film exchange and video analysis. During the summer of 2011, he helped execute American’s 10-day, four-game trip to Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

The Eagles were 22-9 (11-3 Patriot) Eskow’s junior year and 20-12 his senior year. Their four-year record during his tenure was 77-49 (.611) and 41-15 (.732).

Prior to graduating from the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, Md., Eskow was a two-year student varsity assistant basketball coach. He worked under former CUA assistant Eyal Fierst. Eskow also played baseball for three seasons and helped lead the team to the 2007 Potomac Valley Athletic Conference championship. He ran cross country for four years and served as a senior captain.

Eskow received an Athletic Achievement Award his final year (2007-08) at Jewish Day and was a Dean’s List student as a junior and senior.

Eskow graduated from The American University in 2012 with a degree in literature and a minor in creative writing. His name appeared on the Dean’s List once as a junior and twice as a senior. For many summers he has been an assistant coordinator for the Hoop Group DC Metro Showcase and Big Shots tournaments, the latter at CUA.

Ryan Goldrich Eskow was born in Washington, D.C., in 1989 and grew up in Olney, Md. He lives in Washington. His older brother, Jonathan, swam four years at Brandeis University.
