WASHINGTON, D.C. - Catholic University head golf coach Ed Dolan announced the men's 2019 spring schedule on Thursday afternoon. After a strong start in its inaugural fall season, the team begins again Sunday, March 24 with a tri-match against Marymount and Shenandoah at University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park, Md.
The Cardinals then travel to Stafford, Va. the following weekend to participate in the Eagle Invitational, hosted by Mary Washington University, at Augustine Golf Club.
"I'm proud of how our teams got started this fall and progressed as the season went along," Dolan said. "I think we can build on the momentum and compete well for the conference championship in the spring."
Conference play gets going for Catholic in April, starting with the Susquehanna Spring Invitational on April 6. The River Hawks host the Cardinals at Susquehanna Valley Country Club in Selinsgrove, Pa. The men's team follows with its last regular season action on April 14-15 at the Goucher Spring Invitational at Hillendale Country Club in Phoenix, Md.
A youthful men's roster will look to build on a fall season in which the team finished in the top half of competing teams in five of the seven invitationals. Freshman Alex Freedman led the team with 10 rounds and an 81.3 average score. Freshman Zach Mueller and sophomore Matthew Laurendeau followed closely behind in round averages below 83 and carded the lowest rounds in the fall with a 72 score. Fellow freshman Jack McCarthy captured the sole victory of the season with a 79 in the Eastern Fall Invitational to finish first out of 23 golfers.
The men's Landmark Conference Championships are slated for May 4-5. Catholic will compete in Harrisonburg, Pa. at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course.
