TOWSON, Md. - With its inaugural spring season quickly approaching, the Catholic University men's golf team has been slated to finish fourth in the Landmark Conference according to the 2019 preseason poll, announced by the league office Thursday morning.
The Cardinals garnered 35 points in the poll for fourth out of the Landmark's eight teams. Leading the men's poll was Goucher, who garnered 62 total points and six first-place votes, followed by Scranton in second with 52 points and one first-place vote. Drew comes in third with 47 total points, followed by Catholic, Moravian, Susquehanna, Elizabethtown, and Juniata.
Catholic's spring season begins Sunday, March 24 with a tri-match against Marymount and Shenandoah at University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park, Md.
A youthful men's roster will look to build on a fall season in which the team finished in the top half of competing teams in five of the seven invitationals. Freshman Alex Freedman the team with 10 rounds and an 81.3 average score. Freshman Zach Mueller and sophomore Matthew Laurendeau followed closely behind in round averages below 83 and carded the lowest rounds in the fall with a 72 score. Fellow freshman Jack McCarthy captured the sole victory of the season with a 79 in the Eastern Fall Invitational to finish first out of 23 golfers.
The men's Landmark Conference Championships are slated for May 4-5. Catholic will compete in Harrisonburg, Pa. at Dauphin Highlands Golf Course.
