TOWSON, Md. – The Cardinals fell to conference leader Goucher on Saturday afternoon by a score of 14-10.  CUA pulled to within 12-9 late in the fourth quarter, but the Gophers scored two of the final three goals to hold on for the victory.  The Cardinals fall to 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference following the loss, while No. 14 Goucher improves to 13-1 and 4-0.

CUA's Sean Cummins struck for the game's first goal 5:28 into the contest, but Goucher's Matt Lynch came right back with two straight scores to give the Gophers a 2-1 advantage.

Camden Feldman tied things at two with a goal at the 3:47 mark of the quarter, but Kyle Boncaro found the back of the net with just over three minutes remaining to give Goucher a 3-2 lead after one.

Brendan Englert's goal at the 12:18 mark of the second quarter tied things at three, but the Gophers scored the next three, including one from Sam Woodruff with 11 seconds on the clock to give Goucher a 6-3 lead at the break.

Marc Saxton got the Cardinals to within two with his goal 3:24 into the third quarter, but Goucher again answered, this time with back-to-back scores to up its lead to 8-4 with 4:32 left.

Englert closed out the quarter with his second goal of the afternoon to get CUA within three heading into the final 15 minutes.

The Gophers went in front by six after scoring the first three goals of the final quarter, but CUA refused to go away quietly, getting to within 11-6 on Englert's third score at the 8:25 mark.

Following a Goucher goal at the 6:31 mark, CUA ripped off three straight scores in a span of 2:04 to get within 12-9 with 3:42 on the clock.  Tyler Catalani, Englert and Feldman accounted for the Cards' goals during the 3-0 run.

Goucher increased its lead to four though, when Bryce Carson found the back of the net with 2:57 to play.

Nathan Chan gave the Cardinals hope with a score at the 2:33 mark to make it a three-goal affair, but CUA was unable to find the back of the net for the rest of the game, and Boncaro added an insurance goal in the final minute to seal the win for Goucher.

Both teams were able to get off plenty of shots, with Goucher finishing with a 42-38 advantage, and the Gophers also won the ground ball battle, 35-26.

Englert led CUA with five ground balls, while Tom Scotto won 8 of 17 face-offs and Jack Firriolo led the way with two caused turnovers.
