Cardinals Pull Away From Elizabethtown In Fourth Quarter for 10-8 Win

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's lacrosse team scored the final three goals of the game on the road to turn a 8-7 fourth quarter deficit into a 10-8 win at Elizabethtown on Saturday, March 29.

Brian Keith and Walter Hickey led CUA with two goals and an assist each, while Cam Feldman and Will Cowan both found the back of the net twice.

Kevin Murray scooped up a game-high 8 groundballs and helped the Cardinals control the faceoffs, winning 13 of 20.

Hickey and Tim Keith put the visitors up first, scoring the first two goals of the game by the 5:53 mark in the first quarter. E-Town scored two of the next three goals to cut the margin to 3-2 at the end of the first period.

Cowan and Feldman answered back to open up the second quarter and push the lead to 5-2 with just over six minutes to play before halftime.

From that point, the Blue Jays score five unanswered goals to the midway point of the third quarter to take their first lead of the game, 7-5.

Hickey and B. Keith kept the Cardinals in it, evening up the score at 7-7 heading into the fourth and final quarter.

Joe Clark scored his first goal of the game for E-Town to regain the advantage at 13:57. Murray won the following faceoff to give the Cardinals a chance to tie. Dominick Marino set up James Clarke less than a minute later as CUA scored for the third tie on the scoreboard.

Murray again won the ensuing faceoff and charged into Blue Jay territory, finding B. Keith who got past the E-Town goalie, giving Catholic a 9-8 advantage with 12:44 to play.

As Catholic took the lead, Erik Hyland stepped up and thwarted every Blue Jay attack, recording five saves in the final seven minutes of the game.

Feldman scored the final goal of the game with one second left on the clock to push the final margin to 10-8 and help Catholic pick up its second straight win.

The Cardinals return to action at home on Saturday, April 5 when they welcome Landmark foe Washington & Jefferson to Cardinal Stadium for the Class of 2014's Senior Day.
