WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team was picked atop the Landmark Conference Preseason Poll as selected by the league's head coaches. The Cardinals earned 46 points and two first-place votes in the poll.
Elizabethtown and Scranton each earned two first-place votes and finished second and third in the poll with 41 and 38 points, respectively. Drew rounds out the top half of the poll with 32 points and the last first-place vote.
The Cardinals are coming off their best regular-season record in program history (13-2) and received votes in the USILA / Nike Top-20 poll for the first time ever, staying in the poll for eight weeks in 2017.
Catholic returns 30 players and eight starters from last year's squad, including All-America hopeful Bennett Bradley, the conference's leading scorer last year.
Four All-Landmark players and both goalies are back for head coach Brooks Singer, who has led the Cards to the last three Landmark Conference Championship games, two league titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Catholic opens the season this Saturday, February 10, in a neutral site game in Charlottesville, Va., against Sewanee at 1 p.m.
