WASHINGTON — The Catholic University of America men's lacrosse team played a strong game on Friday night at Cardinal Stadium as Catholic downed St. Mary's (Md.), 11-7.
Senior Samuel Montgomery scored the gamewinner less than two minutes into the game as the Cards never trailed in the contest.
Catholic scored the first three goals of the game and while St. Mary's fought back to make it a one-goal game at the half, the Cardinals used a strong third quarter with goals and held the Seahawks off the board.
Montgomery finished his day with a hat trick and added an assist from the four-point night. He was one of six different Cards to score.
Senior Bennett Bradley was right with Montgomery with three goals of his own while he added two assists for a game-high five points.
Sophomore goalie Alex Mulyk was strong in the cage as he made eight saves against 29 shots.
Catholic won the ground ball battle, 34-25.
The Cardinals will not have a full week to prepare for its Landmark Conference opener, next Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m., at home against Drew.
