WASHINGTON, D.C. - Due to the anticipated winter weather forecasted for the Washington area on Tuesday, the Catholic University men's lacrosse season opener against Southern Virginia has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 13 at 4 p.m. The game will also be played in Cardinal Stadium.
The Cardinals, who finished 8-8 a year ago and 2-4 in the Landmark Conference, were picked to finish sixth in the Landmark Conference preseason poll after receiving 13 points, just two behind fifth-place Moravian.
Catholic has won five-straight season openers under head coach Brooks Singer and 14 consecutive home openers. The last time the Cardinals lost a home opener was way back on Feb. 21, 2004 against No. 1-ranked and defending national champion Salisbury.
The Cards opened the 2014 season at home against Southern Virginia, posting a 19-0 victory over the Knights inside Cardinal Stadium in the first game since the passing of teammate Brendan Englert on April 25, 2013. Englert, the 2011 Landmark Conference and ECAC Rookie of the Year, is still remembered by the team each season with helmet stickers and jersey patches.
Live stats and live video will be available for the game on CatholicAthletics.com.
The game will be the first of two at home for the Cardinals that day as the men's basketball team will play its final home game of the season at 7 p.m., against Goucher on Franny Murray Court.
