TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University men's lacrosse freshman Mike McShea was named Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after helping lead the Cardinals to a come-from-behind, conference victory at Drew on Saturday, 8-6.
McShea, who received his first career weekly honor, is the second Cardinal to be honored in as many weeks after junior Vince Catenacci was named Offensive Player of the Week last Monday.
McShea won 11 of 17 faceoffs, including nine of the last 12 over the final three quarters, as Catholic rallied from a 6-4 third quarter deficit with four unanswered goals to post its fourth win in the last five games and remain unbeaten in the Landmark Conerence.
McShea currently leads the league in faceoff percentage at 64.9, just ahead of Scranton's Collin Purdy at 62.0. Purdy has won 178 of 287 with 100 ground balls while McShea has won 174 of 268 with 104 ground balls.
The Cardinals have back-to-back Landmark Conference games at home this week beginning on Wednesday when they host Goucher at 4 p.m.
