TOWSON, Md. - Catholic University men's lacrosse senior Luke Scaduto was named the 2019 Landmark Conference Men's Lacrosse Senior Scholar Athlete on Wednesday. His selection marks the third-straight year that the Cardinals have had a player receive the award.
Scaduto is the 36th Catholic student-athlete to be honored as a Landmark Conference Senior Scholar Athlete and the fourth men's lacrosse player, joining Walter Hickey (2014), Tim Keith (2017) and Bennett Bradley (2018).
The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, faculty athletic representatives, senior woman administrators and sports information directors.
Scaduto graduated on Saturday with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a 3.89 grade-point average. He was a two-time All-Landmark Conference selection, earning second team honors this year after helping lead the Cardinals to an appearance in the Landmark Conference semifinals. He finished third on the team with 35 ground balls and had at least one in 15 of the team's 16 games. He also totaled three goals, two assists and six caused turnovers.
For his career, Scaduto played in 63 of the team's 67 games, including all 49 over the last three seasons, while totaling six goals, five assists, 143 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers.
Off the field, Scaduto participated in Catholic's annual MLK Day of Service, Brookland Field Day and Mother Theresa Day of Service. He was named to the Dean's List every semester and was a three-time Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll selection.
Scaduto was also named to the Landmark Conference All-Sportsmanship Team this year and was a nominee for the 2019 Harris Cup which is awarded by the Catholic athletics department senior for excellence as a leader, athlete and scholar who has made a significant contribution to the campus and community.
