WASHINGTON - Junior Ryan Welsh (Glen Mills, Pa./Salesianum) notched a game-high three goals and sophomore Matt Monfet (West Orange, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) posted 18 saves to lead Catholic over Eastern 8-2 on Wednesday afternoon in the last home game of the season. The win made it four in a row for the Cardinals.

Monfet, at left, shut down Eastern for three quarters before the Eagles tallied twice in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Justin Kelly (Milton, Mass./Boston College) opened the scoring by netting one of his two tallies on the day at the 7:15 mark of the first quarter.

CUA (5-7) took a 3-0 lead into the half as junior Eric Slagel (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) scored his first of the day with just one second remaining in the second quarter. Slagel would score his team-leading 19th goal in the fourth quarter with an assist from Kelly to close the scoring.

Welsh added an assist to raise his point total to 31 on the year. Freshman Tom Alexander (Manhasset, NY/St. Mary's) (1 goal/1 assist), junior John Bracken (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) (1 assist), and freshman Alex Peto (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) also recorded points for CUA.

The Cardinals resume action on Saturday as they travel to Towson, Md., to face Goucher in a CAC game at 1 p.m.
