Scotto has six goals in the game

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's lacrosse dominated the Moravian College Greyhounds (4-12, 0-6 Landmark) Saturday in both teams final Landmark Conference game.  CUA got off to a strong start and never let up winning 16-5.  The Cardinals finish the season 7-9 and 2-4 in the Landmark Conference.

Mike Scotto (Belmar, N.J./St Rose) started out strong for the Cards in the first scoring the first three goals of the game with one coming off of a pass by Pat Duffner (Yardly, Pa./Notre Dame).  With five minutes left in the first, Moravian got on the board with an unassisted goal but CUA came right back with a goal from Chris Saxton (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) to bring the lead back to three.  However, with a minute to play a Greyhound goal and one from Kyle Brant (Silver Spring, Md./St. John's) made it 5-2 after the first quarter.

The second quarter started in Moravian's favor when Brian Cleaver hit his second goal of the day early on.  Scotto stayed hot in the second with his fourth of the afternoon on an unassisted tally at the ten minute mark and another at six minutes.  Moravian added one soon after but a wild play made it one more for CUA as long stick defender Andrew Baldwin (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) passed down the field which was missed but rolled past the keeper making it 8-4.

The Cardinals added to the lead shortly into the third with two goals from Tim Rettaliata (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) starting it out.  The junior attack then added an assist to Mike Groh's (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Bros) shot making the score 11-4.  The two then traded positions as Rettaliata notched hits third of the day from Groh. Scotto scored one off of the ground as the final second ticked away in the third and off of the resulting face-off, David Redmond (Mineola, N.Y./Chaminade) picked it up and got it to John Volpe (Newton, Pa./Notre Dame) who scored as time ran out making it 14-4.

Moravian scored midway through the fourth, but the efforts were in vain as CUA added another with a goal by Dan Finnegan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) with the assist from John Purcell (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and one from Chris Idelson (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) with time winding down.  At the final horn the score was 16-5.

Scotto led the Cards with six goals while Rettaliatta added three, both had one assist in the game.  CUA out shot Moravian 39-23 and had ten more ground balls along with two fewer turnovers.  Greg Kavazanjian (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach)  took the win in his final game in goal with seven saves.

The Cardinals conclude the season at 7-9 and 2-4 in the Landmark narrowly missing the conference tournament.
