Cardinals run win streak to four with 15-9 win at York

YORK, Pa. – Behind a 9-0 scoring run that spanned the first and second quarters, CUA ran its win streak to four with a 15-9 victory over York (4-2) on Wednesday afternoon.  Jimmy Sinnott scored five goals for the Cardinals (6-1), and Brendan Englert, Bobby Kusbit and Chris Fuccillo registered hat tricks.

York jumped on top 2-0 with a pair of goals in the game's opening 2:12, but CUA blitzed the Spartans with a 9-0 run over the course of the next 21 minutes to surge in front by seven.

During the Cardinals scoring spree CUA received three goals from Sinnott and two from Englert, Fuccillo and Kusbit.

James Lowe finally put an end to the CUA run with a score at the 1:30 mark of the second quarter and that sent the teams into halftime with the Cardinals on top 9-3.

Fuccillo completed his hat trick with a goal 3:14 into the third quarter to give CUA a seven-goal advantage and Sinnott's score three minutes later extended to an 11-3 lead for the Cardinals.

Englert added his third score of the afternoon with a goal at the 5:50 mark of the quarter and CUA was in charge with a 12-3 lead.

York scored the final three goals of the quarter to send the teams into the final 15 minutes with CUA leading 12-6.

The Spartans continued to cut into CUA's lead with the first three goals of the fourth quarter to make it 12-9 with 6:13 remaining in the contest.  Kusbit and Sinnott had an answer though, scoring back-to-back goals in a span of 54 seconds to push the Cardinals lead back to five, 14-9.

Tyler Catalani then got into the act for CUA with a score with only 3:08 on the clock to all but seal the road win for the Cardinals.

CUA was credited with 55 shots on the afternoon, including a 20-8 advantage in the second quarter.  The Cardinals picked up 25 ground balls, led by Tom Scotto's 11.  Scotto also won 18 of 28 face-offs.

As a team, CUA forced 18 turnovers with Ryan Doyle and Rob Ryan causing four apiece.  Sean McKenna played all 60 minutes in goal for the Cardinals and sent back 13 shots during that time.

Jimmy Langton scored three goals to lead York, which registered 39 shots on the day.  The Spartans scooped up 36 GBs with John Dubois leading the way with four. 

Two York goalkeepers, Tyler Powell and Mike Karwoski, saw time on Wednesday with Powell notching 11 saves and Karwoski totaling nine.

On Saturday CUA continues on the road with a match at Washington & Jefferson.  Opening face-off is slated for 1 p.m.
