High Winds Cancel Saturday's Rowing Regatta at St. Mary's

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Saturday's men's and women's rowing regatta against St. Mary's (Md.) at the James P. Muldoon River Center has been canceled due to high winds.

"Given the current course conditions and the fact that the wind will be worse tomorrow, we decided to cancel the race as it will still be 20 mph sustained winds tomorrow," said head coach Katie O'Driscoll. "The general rule is that crews don't row when whitecaps are present as they can crash over the gunwales and swamp a boat."

The Cardinals have been training since their last event on November 3 when they finished fifth in the men's novice eight at the Head of the Occoquan.

Catholic, coxed by freshman Christian Bordak-Roseman and stroked by freshman Matthew Toppi, finished second in a time of 17:55.25 which was an improvement over its season-opening time of 19:10.07.

The Cardinals are scheduled to return to the water next Saturday, March 30 at the Washington College Invite on the Chester River.
