Six named All-Conference; Brennan, coaches earn major awards

WASHINGTON – Following an unbeaten conference regular season, CUA was rewarded on Thursday in a big way.  Mike Brennan, Mike DiMarco, Kevin Romano, Hunter Horvath, Ethan DaPonte and Torsten Meuschke were named to the All-Conference teams, while Brennan and the Cardinals coaching staff earned major awards.

In addition to being named a First Team All-Conference performer, Brennan also collected the Offensive Player of the Year award on Thursday.  The Pennsylvania native leads the conference in points (29), goals (13), and game-winning goals (5), while ranking fourth in shots (50).  Brennan scored two of his goals in CUA's 3-1 semifinal victory over Susquehanna earlier this week.

Joining Brennan on the first team are DiMarco and Romano, who have both scored four goals, handed out three assists and totaled 11 points on the season.  One of DiMarco's goals was a game-winner, while Romano is a perfect three of three on penalty kicks, including one on Tuesday in the semifinals.

CUA placed three student-athletes on the second team, including Horvath, DaPonte and Meuschke.  Horvath has appeared in 17 matches and started 13, totaling one goal, two assists and four points.

DaPonte has started all 18 games and helped spearhead a defense that is allowing 1.2 goals per match and has shut out four opponents.

Meuschke meanwhile has been CUA's top goalkeeper in 2011. The freshman has started 10 matches and logged more than 940 minutes.  Meuschke has sent back 43 shots on the year, and is allowing only 1.05 goals against.  He ranks second in the conference in goals against average, third in save percentage and seventh in saves.

Beauchamp and his staff earn their second conference coaching staff of the year award after also claiming the honor in 2008.  Beauchamp led the Cardinals to a 6-0-1 record in the Landmark Conference, a national ranking and top-five ranking within the Mid-Atlantic Region this season.

In addition, CUA rattled off a school-record nine consecutive victories from September 24 through October 26.

CUA will go for its third consecutive Landmark Conference championship on Saturday when the top-seeded Cardinals play host to third-seed Merchant Marine Academy at CUA Soccer Field.  Start time is set for 2:30 p.m.
