Moravian comes to town on Saturday for conference opener

WASHINGTON – The 2011 Landmark Conference men's soccer schedule gets underway on Saturday when CUA plays host to Moravian.  The Cardinals have posted a 4-3 record up to this point, having faced a number of tough teams, including top-five squads Christopher Newport and Messiah.

CUA was last in action on Monday afternoon when it lost a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to Rutgers-Camden in overtime.  The Cardinals actually trailed 2-0 at halftime before battling back and ultimately tying the score on Ben Fleri's free kick with 34 seconds to play in regulation.

The Cardinals have been led on offense this season by Earl Hamilton with nine points (3 goals, 3 assists), Kevin Romano with seven points (3 goals, 1 assist) and Mike Brennan with six points (3 goals).

In goal CUA has used three players, Cam McGrory, Torsten Meuschke and Sean Libby, giving Head Coach Travis Beauchamp plenty of options at that position.

Moravian is currently 1-5, having beaten Rosemont College on Monday by a score of 3-0.  The Greyhounds are led by John Pavia (2 goals, 2 assists) and Eric Paone (2 goals, 1 assist), but have been outscored 14-5 in the early going.

Last season CUA went up to Bethlehem, Pa. and downed Moravian 1-0 on the strength of an Ian Smith goal in the 60th minute.

Saturday's match is set to get underway beginning at 1 p.m.  Following the match the CUA women will take on Moravian at 3:30.
