CUA shuts out Scranton, sets school mark with 8th straight win

SCRANTON, Pa. – A Justin Oloriz goal in the 25th minute proved to be all that CUA needed in running its win streak to a school-record eight straight with a 1-0 victory over Scranton on Saturday.  The Cardinals limited the Royals to only six shots and in the process upped their record to 12-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the Landmark Conference.

CUA's Hunter Horvath had an early chance at the 13:23 mark, but his header was high.

Ten minutes later Oloriz took a feed from Horvath and found the back of the net with a shot from 14-yards out to put the Cardinals in front 1-0.

Another shot from Horvath, this one coming at the 32:26 mark, also went high, and the score remained 1-0.

Mike DiMarco had two chances for CUA in the final five minutes of the half, but his first attempt was high and the second was saved by James Dillon.

The Royals were limited to only three shots in the second half, the first of which came at the 52:08 mark from Colin McFadden, but it sailed wide.

DiMarco took CUA's first attempt of the half at the 61:29 mark, but it too went wide.

Scranton looked for the equalizer in the 82nd minute on a Mark Stellwag shot, but Torsten Meuschke made the save for CUA.  The Royals final chance came in the 86th minute, but again Meuschke was there for the save.

The Cardinals were credited with 11 shots in the match, to only six for the home team, while Scranton finished with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Meuschke sent back two shots for CUA and Dillon also finished with two saves for the Royals.

CUA will play twice next week, beginning on Wednesday afternoon when the Cardinals welcome St. Mary's to town for a 3:30 match.  The Cardinals will then close out their regular season schedule with a showdown with Drew on October 29 at home.  That match will begin at noon.
