Two Cardinals named to All-Region Team

WASHINGTON – Two members of the CUA men’s soccer team have been named to the 2012 Mid-Atlantic All-Region Team, it was announced on Wednesday.  Kevin Romano was named to the Second Team, while Mike Brennan received Third Team honors.   Both Cardinals were First Team All-Landmark Conference selections this season.

Romano, who became CUA’s first Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Year, started all 16 matches this season and totaled two goals and three assists.  Two of his goals went for game-winners, including against nationally ranked Scranton on October 20.

With Romano leading the way, CUA shutout seven opponents, including a string of four straight to close the regular season.  The Cardinals held eight teams to 10 or fewer shots, with a low of four coming vs. Shenandoah.

Brennan had another strong season for the Cards, totaling team highs in goals (7), assists (4) and points (12).  Brennan netted three game-winning goals, including in the regular season finale at Drew, and he registered seven of his 12 points vs. conference foes.

Brennan was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week on October 29 and wrapped up his career with 28 goals and 68 points in 79 matches.

CUA went 13-6 this past season, including a mark of 6-1 in the Landmark Conference.  The Cardinals, who closed the regular season with five straight wins, were ranked 10th in the final Mid-Atlantic Region rankings.
