Catholic Defeats Susquehanna in Landmark Action

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's soccer team spoiled Susquehanna's Senior Day by picking up a 2-1 victory over the Crusaders on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Catholic moves to 8-3-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in the Landmark, while Susquehanna falls to 7-4-1, 2-2-0.

Hunter Horvath (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll) headed home a cross from Kevin Romano  (Freehold, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) just 15:28 into the game to put the Cardinals up early. Horvath's second goal of the season was the only tally of the first half, as Catholic took its 1-0 lead into halftime.

Early in the second stanza, Romano scored off of an assist by Nico Bartolomeo (Pewaukee, Wisc./Pewaukee) in the 53rd minute. The 2-0 lead did not last long, as 28 seconds later Patrick Fry ripped a shot from near midfield that got past Torsten Meuschke (Gaithersburg, Md./Magruder) to cut the Catholic lead to 2-1.

The Cardinals were able to hold onto their lead for the remainder of the game, picking up their second Landmark win. Catholic improves to 2-0-1 in the conference and currently holds the top spot in the standings.

Meuschke picked up five saves in the game and earned his fourth win of the season. For the game, Susquehanna held an advantage in both shots, 14-to-11, as well as corner kicks, 6-to-4.

The Cardinals return to action this Wednesday, Oct. 16 when they host Maine – Fort Kent in a non-conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
