WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's soccer team earned its first win of the season with 1-0 win over the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney on the last day of The "Turk" D.C. Classic hosted by Catholic.

The first half was evenly played, as neither team was able to place a goal on the scoreboard.  CUA and HS entered the halftime intermission with five shots apiece.

Catholic returned to the field and quickly applied more pressure on the Tigers' backline taking seven shots in the half.  But, it was a shot from Jon Paciorek that changed the tempo of the contest.  On a cross pass from Ben Sykes, Paciorek launched a shot into the back of the goal to put the Cards up 1-0 at the 63:46 mark for the win.

The Cardinals came close to a single-goal advantage, as breathing taking shot from Joe Taylor went high and second-chance shot from Tyler Zimmerman went wide right at the 88:45 mark.

CUA's Torsten Meuschke registered two saves in his first win of the season.

Catholic will host Washington & Lee on Saturday, September 6 at 1:00 p.m. for the team's official home opener.
