Catholic Edged at Salisbury in Double-OT, 2-1

Salisbury, Md. — For the fourth-straight game and the sixth time this season The Catholic University of America men's soccer team went into double overtime but despite a solid effort against Salisbury, the Cardinals were edged by Seagulls, 2-1.

Each team scored in the first 15 minutes of the match and it looked as though neither squad would be able to find the back of the net again with just under three minutes left in the second overtime period. Catholic held Salisbury without a goal on its first nine corners, but on its final one, a header to the top left of the goal sent the Seagulls home victorious.

Salisbury scored just six minutes into the match, but Catholic quickly answered as junior Tyler Martin passed a curving ball from the center field that found the feet of sophomore Andrew Laurenzano who drilled it home for the tying score.

The Cardinals went on to outshoot the Seagulls, 9-7 over the next three frames and had three opportunities in the first overtime, but could not again get one past the keeper.

Senior goalkeeper Zachery Tashjy made five saves in the match including one in the 99th minute of the first overtime period to keep the Cards alive.

Junior, Corbin Brailsford, sophomores Mitch Ford and Mike Narzikul, and freshman Nick Battaglia and all joined Tashjy with complete-game performances.

Rookie Nelson Zimmerman paced the Catholic attack with three shots in 54 minutes, while Martin and Laurenzano each put two shots on goal.

The Cardinals return to Landmark Conference play this Saturday at 4 p.m., when they travel to face Juniata.
