TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's soccer team improved its winning streak to four games on Wednesday evening with a 1-0 win over Landmark Conference foe Goucher College.
Sophomore Ben Alexander scored the game's only goal in the 65th minute of play to push Catholic (8-5) past the Gophers. His team-leading fourth goal of the season was a result of his seven shots on target during the match, also a team-high.
The Cardinals as a team peppered the Goucher goalkeeper, forcing Daniel Hendry to make 13 saves on 18 shots. Catholic's backline, consisting of Mike Narzikul, Ryan Kennedy, and Mitch Ford, all played more than 85 minutes to allow just five shots.
Freshman Paul Egan assisted Alexander's strike, his second helper of the season. The one goal advantage was all the visitors needed to pick up their third straight conference win.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jack Long played all 90 minutes, making three saves in his third consecutive clean sheet. Catholic has outscored opponents 9-0 in its last three contests.
The Cardinals return to the pitch for another important Landmark battle on the road against Moravian on Saturday, October 20 at 1 p.m.
