KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For his efforts on the field and in the classroom, Catholic University men's soccer senior Brian Galfond was selected to the United Soccer Coaches' Division III Men's Scholar All-South Region First Team.
Galfond did it all for Catholic, leading the offense with 14 points on four goals and six assists. He scored in big moments, notching three game-winning goals, including markers against Landmark Conference rivals Scranton and Moravian.
In addition to starting 17 games in the midfield, Galfond excelled in the classroom as a mechanical engineering major. His efforts earned him a strong cumulative grade point average to qualify to be considered for the Scholar All-Region teams.
Galfond has received a list of accolades this year. He was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Mid-Atlantic Region Third Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II First Team, All-Landmark Conference First Team and the conference's Academic Honor Roll.
To receive Scholar All-Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches, student-athletes must have a 3.30 cumulative grade point average or higher, have started more than 50 percent of the team's games and significantly contribute to their team and be a junior or senior in academic standing or, if a transfer student, their second year in school.
Galfond was one of two players from the Landmark Conference to earn Scholar All-South Region honors joining Goucher's Brandon Cohen who was named to the Third Team.
