Salisbury, Md. -The Catholic University of America men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams jumped into the 2017-18 season with victories over Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon. The men’s side earned a 131-74 advantage over the Sea Gulls while the women tallied a final score of 149-55.
Freshman Greg McCarthy captured back-to-back first-place finishes in the 200-meter individual medley (2:15.13) followed by the 100-meter butterfly (1:00.26). Rookie Matt Mahon touched in first during the 100-freestyle (54.38) while classmate Chris Grunbok hit the wall for gold in the 100-breaststroke (1:08.25).
The Catholic women swept four of the nine individual events. Sophomore Jacquelyn Bouvier kicked off the meet with a victory in the 800-meter freestyle (10:26.26) followed by junior Pippa Rogers (10:35.56) and senior Kristen Dawson (11:07.34).
Freshman Caroline Beal touched in first in the 200-freestyle (2:20.18) with sophomores Kassi Grumski (2:26.20) and Elizabeth Spernal (2:26.59) hitting the wall behind her for the Catholic one-two-three finish.
The Cardinals return to the nation’s capital to host Landmark foe the University of Scranton on Friday, October 27th at 5 p.m.
