Records Fall as Catholic Women Earn Historical Second Place Finish at Landmark Championships

Boyds, Md. - The Catholic University of America women's swimming and diving team made history as the Cardinals finished the Landmark Conference Championships in second place with 704 points, their highest point total since joining the league in 2007.

Catholic trailed the league champions, Susquehanna University who finished with 848 points and topped the University of Scranton, who earned 541 for third place.

On the third night of competition, freshman Caroline Beal earned a bronze medal in the 200-backstroke while setting a new school record of 2:07.72. Senior Madison Amann (2:15.90) touched the wall for seventh place and sophomore Emily Tighe (2:19.05) earned 10th place.

Junior Rachael Zarlinski earned silver with a 54.14 second finishing time in the 100-freestyle  while freshman Morgan James (54.18) earned bronze and sophomore Kassi Grumski (56.39) touch in for 11th place.

Fellow junior Pippa Rogers took second place in the 200-butterfly when she hit the wall with a time of 2:14.35. Fellow junior Emily Messina (2:16.48) swam in for fifth place and senior Brooke Krajewski won the consolation final with a ninth-place time of 2:20.60.

Freshman Molly Donnellan swan the 200-breaststroke in 2:33.11 for fifth place. The Cardinals earned a one-two-three finish in the consolation final as freshman Ally Noccioli (2:36.01) led the field followed by senior Basira Knight (2:36.09) and fellow freshman Marie Redoutey (2:37.57).

Junior Valerie Sander swam the 1650-freestyle in 18:27.90 to earn fifth place while sophomore Elizabeth Spernal (18:41.68) finished eighth and Tighe hit the wall in 14th place.

Catholic finished the weekend with a bronze medal time of 3:37.09 in the 400-freestyle relay. James started the race with a 54.93 split. Beal followed in 53.57 and Knight swam the third 100-free in 54.64. Zarlinski anchored the foursome in 53.95.
