TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's swimming sophomore Gregory McCarthy has been selected as the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
McCarthy picked up where he left off after a record-breaking freshman campaign this past weekend against Division II opponent Barton College, picking up two event wins.
The Silver Spring, Md. native took the top spot in the 200-butterfly (2:02.71) and 200-individual medley (2:01.87) to earn eighteen points for the men's team. He also contributed in the 200-medley relay with a 24.07 split to take second.
"I think Gregory would agree that there is a lot of work in front of us as a team to get to where we want to be," said head Coach Paul Waas. "That said, I'm proud of everyone's effort, and this is a nice capper to our first weekend of competition."
Catholic men's swimming & diving is back in action next Saturday, October 20 at Salisbury at 1 p.m.
