Men’s Tennis Defeats McDaniel, 5-4

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America men's tennis team defeated McDaniel at home on Thursday afternoon, edging the Green Terror, 5-4.

The team match began with the doubles competition with CUA's freshman tandem of Ted Tiu and Robin Wu who took an early lead in their match at No. 2 doubles and held on for a 9-7 win.

The No.1 team of Robert Alexander and Conor Wilson fell behind early, down two breaks of serve to trail 2-6. Despite a furious comeback where they won 5-of-6 games to tie the score at 7-7, the McDaniel team surged at the end, edging CUA 9-7.

Tiu delivered the clinching team point for CUA, grinding out a marathon three-set win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 at the No. 3 singles. Tiu has posted a 3-1 record in his first two collegiate matches and was dubbed the Cardinals' Player of the Week for head coach Rich Bausch.

McDaniel only fielded four players in the match and was forced to forfeit three wins to Catholic on the afternoon.

"The team received an extraordinary effort from Wilson, Purowitz and Tiu today. If not for Tiu's heroics, Catholic does not win that match," said Busch. "Coach Clark's McDaniel squad is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the future. His guys played hard."

The Cardinals continue dual match competition on Saturday, September 26 when they travel to take on the Gettysburg Bullets at noon.
