Men’s Tennis Topped by Ohio Northern and Wilkes

Hilton Head, S.C. The Catholic University of America men's tennis team took on some top competition as part of its annual Spring Break trip as the Cardinals were edged by Ohio Northern, 9-0, and Wilkes, 7-2.

Catholic picked up both of its wins in doubles play against Wilkes as the Cards took the top and No. 3 matches.

Catholic's No. 1 Jan Lasota teamed with senior classmate Rob Alexander to go over Larry Scartz and Broddock Chow, 8-6.

Lasota also competed in the top singles match but fell, 6-1, 6-3.

Sophomore Kyle Weber and rookie Frankie Fortunati teamed in the No. 3 doubles match and went over in strong fashion, winning 8-3.

Fortunati also played in the No. 3 singles bout, earning seven points in a 6-3, 6-4 defeat.

Earlier in the day, Catholic played Ohio Northern and got strong performances from several competitors but could not find a win.

Lasota and Alexander were edged in the top doubles match, 8-6, while Catholic's No. 2 team of Junior Ted Tiu and senior Matthew Holtschneider went to a tiebreaker after an 8-8 game and fell, 7-5.

With its Spring Break trip wrapped up, Catholic now gears up for its first home match in over five months. The Cards play Harford at 3;30 p.m., on Friday, March 16.
