Cards will face Drew in Landmark Conference finale

WASHINGTON - The second seeded Catholic University men's tennis team held on to defeat the University of Scranton Royals (11-7-1) 6-3 on Wednesday in the Landmark Conference semifinal.  The third seeded Royals took the first two matches of the day but the Cards came roaring back to pick up the next six out of seven.  CUA is now 11-5 on the season.

The Cardinals struggled early on winning just one of the doubles matches.  Connor Donnelly and Rich Sheaffer defeated their opponent 8-2 to get the important victory.

Singles play is where the Cards really shined, however, winning five of six matches including two that forced three sets.  All-Landmark selection John Dillon won at number two by a close 7-5, 7-5.  At the three position, Mike Schinnella won 7-6, 6-0.  Sheaffer was forced to pull out a gutsy win at number four going 7-5, 7-5.  The real nailbiters came at five and six which both went three sets.  Donnelly won his 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 while Mike Reany was victorious by a score of 6-0, 3-6, 6-0.

The Cardinals will now travel to Drew University on Saturday for the Landmark Conference Championship.  Drew defeated Moravian College 8-1 in the other semifinal match-up.  Earlier in the season CUA lost 9-0 to the undefeated Rangers.
