Cardinals push UDC to limit before falling 5-4

WASHINGTON – The Cardinals put up a strong fight on Wednesday before falling to University of the District of Columbia 5-4 at the CUA Tennis Courts.  Jean Paul Roman and Brian Bradley earned wins on the day at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.

At first singles, Bernardo Nogales fell to Tomas Gajdusek 6-1, 6-3, and Cassian Utrie was upended by Carols Quiroga at second singles in a back-and-forth match 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.

UDC’s Miguel Uzcategui downed the Cardinals’ Joe Peters at the third flight 6-1, 6-1, but Roman came back at fourth singles to earn CUA’s first win of the day with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lalindra Jayatilleke.  Bradley then picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win over Karlon Bernard at fifth singles.

In doubles play, Quiroga and Uzcategui won the first flight match over Utrie and Peters, while Gajdusek and Jayatilleke earned a win at second doubles over Nogales and Roman.

The sixth singles and third doubles matches both went to CUA by nature of forfeit.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, September 25 when they host St. Mary’s (Md.) at the CUA Tennis Courts.  Match time is slated for 1:00.
