Catholic Men’s Track & Field Strong at VMI Relays

Lexington, Va. — The Catholic University of America men's indoor track & field team put forth a strong showing at the Virginia Military Institute Winter Relays led by a second-place finish by sophomore Cosmo Pirozzi.

Pirozzi took silver in the 1,000 as he crossed the finish line with a time of 2:35.34. He also went on to finish 12th overall in the 800 with a time of 1:58.26.

The Pole-vaulting duo of Dillon Frawley and Chadd Ziegler were once again strong as they cleared 4.35 meters and 4.20 meters to finish 10th and 11th respectively.

Sophomore Joseph LaPointe cracked the top-20 in the mile as he posted a time of 4:40.02.

Rookie Mike Dreitlein checked in with a top-25 performance in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.13 seconds.

Senior thrower Dustin Vanella finished in the top-30 in the weight throw as he connected on his third-round throw at 11.47 meters.

Senior Brian Seward also added two top-30 performances. In the 400 he took 27th, crossing the finish line in 51.67 seconds. He also placed 23rd in the 200 at 22.81.

Catholic's 4x400 relay team of Pirozzi, Seward, LaPointe and junior Derek Chapey combined for a time of 3:34.92 on the banked-track event.

The Cardinals are now set for the Susquehanna Open this coming Saturday; a tuneup before the following week's Landmark Conference Championship.
