Catholic Men’s Track & Field Wins Mary Washington Open

Fredericksburg, Va. — The Catholic University of America men's track & field team won its 2018 outdoor opener at Mary Washington on Saturday. The Cardinals had several individual wins and top-two performances as they topped seven other teams.

Senior Brian Seward led the way with victories in the 400 (51.35) and as part of the 4x400 relay. He also added a second-place finish in the 200 at 23.08.

Seward was joined by juniors Peter Binck and Derek Chapey, as well as sophomore Cosmo Pirozzi on the winning relay team with a time of 3:33.09.

Sophomore Joseph LaPointe joined in on the wins as he was victorious in the 800 with a time of 1:59.58.

Catholic also got a strong field performance from rookie Joseph Galassi who placed second in the javelin. The freshman's toss traveled 52.10 meters, over 10 more than the third-place finisher.

The Cardinals' pole-vaulting duo of Dillon Frawley and Chadd Ziegler tied for first as they both cleared 4.11 meters.

Catholic returns to action next weekend when they travel to Towson, Md., for the Goucher Classic on Saturday, March 24.
