Catholic Continues Strong Outdoor Season at Battleground Relays

Fredericksburg, Va. — The Catholic University of America men's track & field team competed for the second-straight day on Saturday as they took on a strong field at the University of Mary Washington Battleground Relays.

Despite only competing in one session of the two-day event, the Cardinals managed to finish seventh overall at the relays.

Senior Brian Seward continued his dominant season as he was victorious in the 400-meter dash as he crossed the finish line in 52.02 seconds. He also went on to earn the silver in the 100 with a time of 11.53.

Seward added another win to his day as part of the sprint medley relay as he combined with juniors Derek Chapey and Peter Binck, and sophomore Cosmo Pirozzi for a time of 3:38.96.

It was one of two medley relay wins for Catholic as the team of senior Patrick Jones, sophomore Joseph LaPointe, Binck and Pirozzi won with a time of 11:16.04.

Catholic's top-five finishes continued as rookie Mike Dreitlein placed fourth in the 110 hurdles at 17:37. Sophomore Joseph McAlonan also made the finals in the 400 hurdles and took eighth at 1:09.43.

Next up for Catholic is next Saturday's Division I Towson Tiger Invitational.
