Cardinals Selected Fourth in Preseason Poll

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Catholic University men's track and field team is scheduled to begin their season at the Diplomat Open hosted by Franklin and Marshall on Saturday, December 1.

First-year Director Steve Rahn is excited to begin his inaugural indoor season with the Cardinals. "The men are continuing to build a stronger program," said Rahn. "They are still young but we're excited about the direction we're headed. This weekend's meet will help the freshman get acclimated to competing in college and with a preview of what's to come for the remainder of the season."

After being selected to finish in fourth place in the Landmark Conference preseason poll, the Cards will look to their top returners to lead the way. The All-Conference second team duo of juniors Cosmo Pirozzi and Joseph LaPointe are back to compete for the title in the 4x400 meter relay with the help of some newcomers. LaPointe also returns to make a statement in the mile after a second place finish last February. Rookie Cornelius Deep will join Pirozzi and LaPointe in the distance/mid-distance events and look to continue their success from the cross country season.

Seniors Peter Binck, Derek Chapey and Jake Marcelino return to compete in the sprints, jumps, and hurdles events. Marcelino, a 2017 All-Region jumper and the school record holder in the high jump, returns this season to help pave the way for Catholic. Sophomore Mike Dreitlein is looking to break his own school record in the 60m hurdles, and capture the conference title after finishing in third place last season. Junior Dillon Frawley who finished in third place at Landmark Indoor Championships last season in the pole vault is also returning as a key contributor to the team.

In addition to the Cardinals key returners, they will look to some newcomers to make an immediate impact this upcoming season. Freshman Patrick Maxwell, Kyle Haase, and Luke LaRosa will help contribute to the team's success this year.
