LANCASTER, Pa. - The Catholic University men's indoor track and field team began their 2018-19 season Saturday at the Diplomat Open hosted by Franklin and Marshall on Saturday.
The Cardinals were led by senior jumper Jake Marcelino in the field events. He had a day for himself after a career best of 13.49m in the triple jump placing him in second place, and a second place finish in the high jump with a jump of 1.90m. Junior Dillon Frawley finished in the top ten with an eighth place in the pole vault.
On the track, sophomore Mike Dreitlein finished with a time of 09.24 in the 60m hurdles to place him in sixth place. Senior Peter Binck helped Catholic with a fifth-place finish and a personal best with a time of 52.71 in the 400m dash. For the distance/mid-distance events, junior Cosmo Pirozzi had an impressive 2018-19 debut with a career best of 4:32.53 in the mile run to earn bronze.
"The men had a great start to the season finishing the day with 16 personal records and a school record," said Director Steve Rahn. "Many of the upperclassmen started either where they left off from last season or better. That's always the goal for the first meet and the men stepped up. We know what still needs work and we'll get back to training for one more meet before the break."
Catholic will return to action on Saturday, December 8 at the Holiday Meet hosted by Haverford College.
