HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Catholic University men's indoor track and field team earned two gold medals and a bronze at the Holiday Meet hosted by Haverford College on Saturday.
Taking the top spot for the Cardinals in the field was junior Dillon Frawley. He placed first in the pole vault with a 4.10m mark. Freshman Luke LaRosa followed with a 3.35m vault, placing him in tenth.
On the track, Catholic was led by the 4x400m team of senior Peter Binck, senior Derek Chapey, freshman Patrick Maxwell and junior Cosmo Pirozzi. They earned gold with a time of 3:32.60, finishing 3.74 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Pirozzi also earned his second bronze of the season with a time of 2:00.66 in the 800m.
The 4x200m relay team that included Binck, Chapey, freshman Kyle Haase, and Maxwell finished in the fourth place with a time of 1:37.87. Binck also had a strong performance in the 60m finishing in eighth.
"Today was a good day for the men," said Director Steve Rahn. "Just as the meet last weekend, we use this meet as an early indicator. This meet shows how far along they have come in just two months of training and how much potential they have for the remainder of the year. Dillon and Luke had really big days in the vault, Cosmo has had back-to-back great performances with his transition from cross country to track & field, and the men's 4x4 finished the meet with a big win. The coaching staff is really looking forward to getting back after winter break."
Catholic is not scheduled to return to action until Saturday, January 19 at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus College.
