Men's Cross Country 2000 Season Preview

The Catholic University men's cross country team is looking to have one of its most successful seasons in a decade. The team returns all of its scorers from a squad that finished third at the 1999 CAC championships, compiled a 4-1 dual-meet record and was ranked 13th in the region.

Junior Matt McHugh and senior Ryan McDermott were the Cardinals' two top performers last season. McHugh earned first-team All-CAC and first-team All-Mason-Dixon Conference honors, and McDermott made second-team All-CAC. Filling out the top five are seniors Dan Dougherty and Pat Leonard and junior Michael Clarke.

Senior Andre Mouledoux and juniors Michael Robustelli, Ben Dunford, Will Lucina and Jim Sheehy give the team depth. Gerard McCann and Eric Gannon are freshmen along with Michael Audette that should bolster the squad
this year.

The CAC is one of the strongest cross country conferences in the huge NCAA South Region. Challenging for a top spot in the CAC would probably result in a high regional ranking.
