Cardinals pick up two more wins in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – CUA continued its winning ways on Wednesday, picking up two more wins in Florida. The Cardinals defeated Concordia in five innings 10-1 and Geneva 7-6 in walk-off fashion in the nightcap.

In game one, the Cardinals scored eight runs in the third inning to take the lead 8-0.

got things going with a single to shortstop and advanced to third off a single by Amy Laughner. Rose Shaver plated two and was brought around by a single from Taylor Stockinger.

Nina Curto
delivered an RBI double to put CUA up by four, but the Cardinals were not done. Christy Sanchez singled to right field to score Curto and Morgan Gieser reached on a throwing error that allowed one run to score. Courtney Burke then hit a massive RBI double and scored off another Concordia error.

Caitlin Richards scored the lone run for the Cougars in the bottom of the third off a pair of singles to put the score at 8-1.

In the fourth, Shaver singled to left field and was brought around by Stockinger's twenty-first career homerun to put the Cardinals up 10-1.

Tori Marcavage earned the win for the Cardinals after going five innings and only giving up one earned run and striking out six. Andrea Kelly suffered the loss for the Cougars after giving up five earned runs in three innings.

CUA ended the day by winning its fourth straight game, downing Geneva 7-6 after a three-run seventh inning.

The Golden Tornadoes started early, plating four runs in the first. Dayna Hicks singled to lead the inning off. With the bases loaded, Ashley Davis singled to left field to score three and later was able to score off an error by the Cardinals.

Christina Fuqua's two-run triple to left field in the bottom of the second added two more runs on the board for Geneva.

The Cardinals had an opportunity in the third with bases loaded, but the Golden Tornadoes' defense was able to retire three to end the inning.

The Cardinals got on the board with four runs in the fourth. Curto led off with a single to right field and advanced to second off a single by Marcavage. Sanchez doubled to score one and Burke scored Marcavage from third after grounding out to third base. Laughner then doubled to left field to score two runs to cut the Golden Tornadoes lead to 6-4.

The Cardinals then added three runs in the seventh to win the game. Stockinger reached on an error and Marcavage was hit by a pitch.  Sanchez singled to right field to score Stockinger and Burke flied out to center field to score the tying run from third.

Peters then reached on another Geneva error and Sanchez was able to score to end the game in favor of the Cardinals, 7-6.

Samantha Johnson suffered the loss for the Golden Tornadoes after pitching 1.2 innings and giving up four runs. Victoria Capozucca earned the win for the Cardinals after pitching all seven innings and striking out seven.

The Cardinals have the day off tomorrow, but will return to action on Friday when they play Simpson at 11 a.m. and Presentation at 3 p.m. in Kissimme, Fla.
