Catholic Softball Caps Drew in 1-0, 8-0 Shutout

WASHINGTON  - The Cardinals combined 17 hits and nine runs to overthrow the Drew Rangers 1-0 in game one and 8-0 in game two on Saturday to 5-3 in the Landmark Conference and 16-11 overall.

The Cards scored the only run of game one in the top of the fourth.  Monica Peters slugged a single down right line to score Rose Shaver, who reached first base after being hit by a pitch.  Victoria Capozucca recorded her 12th win of the season by only allowing five hits and no runs, while striking out three batters.  Kristina Lozupone notched a team-high three hits on four times at bat.

The second game was won in five innings with Catholic scoring runs in all innings except for the second and sixth.

Amy Laughner recorded three hits, two runs and two RBIs, as Rebekah Hoisl added two runs, two hits and one RBI to the win.  Kerri Apicella struck out five batters, while allowing one hit for her fourth win of the season.

The Cardinals travel to Moravian on Thursday, April 17 to face the Greyhounds for a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
