Cardinals Venture to Virginia Wesleyan to Face No. 6 Christopher Newport

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America softball team, who celebrated their first Landmark Conference Softball Title on Saturday, will travel to Virginia Beach, Va., to take on No. 6 Christopher Newport in the 2014 NCAA Tournament hosted by Virginia Wesleyan.

This weekend marks CUA's first NCAA post-season appearance and the Cardinals first meeting with CNU since 1999.  The Captains lead the all-time series 9-2.

Catholic earned its bid after defeating Susquehanna 7-5 for the program's first conference title, while Christopher Newport heads to the tournament for the eighth straight season after also winning their first Capital Athletic Conference Title on April 19th.

Bruce McConkey will bring a decorated team to Virginia Beach with Landmark Pitcher of the Year Victoria Capozucca, who holds a conference best 1.38 era and 17 wins, conference tournament MVP Kristina Lozupone and her team-high .459 batting average with 50 hits, 33 RBIs and 22 runs, and first baseman Tori Marcavage, who is ranked sixth in the conference with 77 putouts and .988 field percentage.

Along with CUA and CNU's matchup, Virginia Wesleyan will take on the College of Staten Island.
