Catholic Softball Topped by Frostburg State

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball team played its home-opener on Thursday but were topped by Frostburg State in a doubleheader, 4-1 and 10-3.

The Cardinals were limited in game one by Bobcat pitcher Allison Short who held the Cards to just three hits. It was junior designated player Megan Colline who came up with a big one however as her RBI triple in the fourth got the Cards on the board.

Going head-to-head with Short, Catholic starter Kelly Lynch went the distance and struck out seven but allowed seven hits and four runs against a tough Frostburg lineup.

The Bobcats struck early in game two as they plated four runs in the first inning.

Frostburg State got strong pitching to start again as they held Catholic off the board until the fifth.

Senior Molly MacNeill got Catholic with an RBI double before her classmate Rebekah Hoisl clubbed a sacrifice fly, but the Cards still trailed, 7-2.

The Bobcats got them back and another in the top of the seventh, but the Cardinals kept fighting.

Colline ended her strong day with an RBI double, but Catholic could get no closer.

Despite playing all 12 of its first games on the road before today's home-opening doubleheader, the Cards will now enjoy a homestand with Landmark play beginning this Saturday against Drew at noon.
