Catholic Softball Downs Salisbury Twice

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America softball team earned a road sweep on Saturday as the Cardinals downed Salisbury twice, 6-5, 4-0. Senior Erin Adams led the offense as she finished the two-game set 5-for-8 with five RBI and run.

The Cards rallied from a three-run deficit in game one and went on to shutout the Seagulls in the second game.

Down, 3-0, in the fifth inning Catholic was able to tie it up as Adams got it started with a RBI single. Junior Megan Colline followed with one of her own before her classmate Rachel Valdes tied it up on a groundout.

Catholic put up another three-run inning in the sixth to help clinch the win. Senior Molly MacNeill led off the inning with a single and later came around to score on an error.  Adams continued her big say as a two-RBI single made it 6-3.

Salisbury was able to score twice in the sixth to get within one but sophomore Kelly Lynch came on in relief with bases loaded and got out of the jam. She then struck out one in the seventh as she picked up the save.

Lynch kept it going in game two as she pitched a shutout with four strikeouts and just one walk.

Senior Julie Keleti got the offense going as she went 3-for-4 in game two with two runs scored.

The Catholic offense also stayed hot with two runs in the first inning. Adams did it again for the Cards with a RBI single that also saw Keleti come around to score on a throwing error.

Colline added a RBI double in the fourth while Adams capped her impressive showing with another RBI in the seventh.

Catholic returns home tomorrow at noon versus Stevenson in its regular-season finale.
