Towson, Md. - The Catholic University of America softball team was predicted to finish third in the Landmark Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office on Thursday morning.
Catholic claimed 36 points in the poll, 15 more than fourth-place Juniata. Moravian was the unanimous number one with 60 points. Susquehanna was second and just seven points ahead of the Cardinals.
Head Coach Bruce McConkey returns to helm the Cars for his 16th season and returns the core of a team that went 27-14 overall last season and won a Landmark Tournament game.
Catholic has won at least 20 games in seven of the past eight season with McConkey's highest win total coming last year.
With three All-Landmark players in senior Megan Colline and juniors Rebecca Marks and Kelly Lynch all still in the fold along with a talented group of newcomers, the Cards are once again primed to challenge in the championship tourney.
The Cardinals start the season this weekend as they travel to NoMa to take on in-city rival Gallaudet in a doubleheader at noon.
Landmark and home play begins in strong fashion as the Cardinals take on Moravian, Saturday, March 17 at 1 p.m.
