Clermont, Fla. – The Catholic University of America softball team split its opening doubleheader of the annual PFX Spring Games on Sunday. The Cardinals downed Mt. Union, 8-3, but were edged by Finlandia, 2-0.
The Catholic offense exploded for a fun-run fourth inning to break open a 2-2 deadlock to take game one. The squad tallied three home runs to improve to 3-0 to start the year. The Cards then ran into Finlandia's Denia Bent who scattered five Cardinals' hits top the Cardinals.
Rookie center fielder Makayla Czan went 3-for-4 in game one with two runs, three RBI and one of three Catholic home runs in the game.
Junior Kelly Lynch went the distance from the circle to move to 2-0 on the 2018 season.
Five different Cardinals registered hits in game two including sophomore third baseman Marissa Deblasie who went 1-for-3 and added a stolen base but Catholic could not overcome a 2-0 first-inning lead.
Catholic continues day-two of the games tomorrow when the Cardinals face St. Vincent and Emmanuel at 2 and 4 p.m., respectively.
